5 Proven Methods to Make Preparation For a Family Vacation a Breeze

Preparing for a family vacation can be a stressful task, especially if you have young children. The key to packing is to be organized and to reduce clutter, so that an item is easily accessible and takes up as little space as possible. Over the years, I have come up with these 5 proven methods that have made packing fast and stress free.

1. Come up with a packing list (for each family member) of all the items that I need to pack for the vacation. I write the list in excel spreadsheet so that I can copy and paste, etc, easily and can reuse and modify the list when I go on the next vacation. Number the list, and make it into a checklist form, so that you can check every item off when you finish packing.

2. Organize the luggage such that you can easily find what you need. Categorize the luggage by person. For example, parents share one luggage, baby has one luggage, etc. Rather than - all the towels one luggage, all the pajamas one luggage, etc. This also means using 2 or 3 luggage rather than one big luggage for the whole family. This also makes loading and unloading of luggage easier. Preferably, the children's are wheeled luggage so that the bigger children can wheel the luggage around themselves. This makes them feel important.

3. Roll the clothes. When packing your clothes into the luggage, roll them up instead of folding them. This will safe a lot of space, as well as prevents the clothes from becoming creased. It also helps when you're trying to look for a particular item in the luggage when you are at your holiday destination. You can easily find the item when your clothes are all rolled up.

4. Have a separate (smaller) luggage just for all the toiletries, and put the toiletries into different pouches according to their categories. For example, the tooth brushes and tooth pastes go into one pouch, the shampoos and shower gel go into another, and so forth.

5. Use a car trunk organizer to put all the food items that you plan to bring on your trip. This way, you can organize your food items and make them more accessible, rather than having to dig through your tot bag or something.

Enjoy your holiday!
