You can overcome a lot of the anxiety or adrenaline crash that happens by being able to rest on the plane or whatever other mode of transportation you are taking. If you are going any distance, you should know how important good rest can be. If you happen to be doing your traveling by car, then taking turns driving might be in your future. When it is your turn to rest, you'll be so glad you have a pillow to use.
Travel pillows come in a variety of styles. There are some I've seen in those in-flight magazines that look like a big wedge or big piece of cake. They are actually just foam blocks with a material that can be washed covering them. These types of pillows are designed for you to open the tray on the back of the seat in front of you, put the pillow on it and lay forward. This is just one type of pillow made for traveling on a plane.
Another style is the neck pillow. These pillows are horseshoe-shaped and gently cradle your neck and head, allowing you to lay back in comfort without having your head slide side to side or fall forward. These come in a variety of materials as well. Most are cotton in-fill or cotton-poly blends. The covers usually unzip for easy washing.
A variation on this pillow is the inflatable neck pillow. These are just like the horseshoe-shaped cotton ones but are blown up to your preferred firmness. These are the best for traveling where space is at a premium. Often, if you are traveling by car, bus or train, you can tolerate carrying a little pillow since it is so worth it. However, anymore, plane travel is so restrictive you might find it much less hassle and easier to pack if you can deflate it and just blow it up when you want to use it. It is also very lightweight, so it will not cause you any extra fees in that department.
