Tropical vacations have sun, sand, and the large type of activities that accompany the two. On a typical day at the beach one can: go boating, get sun on the beach, parasail, fish, fly a kite, play beach football and swim in the ocean. The possibilities are endless. Very rarely does bad weather appear. On a winter vacation, snow and ice can wreak havoc with plans, and that leaves your family without any options beyond staying in.
Being cooped|trapped up with bored children in an enclosed space can be horrible. A typical winter vacation might include: skiing, snowboarding, sleigh rides, or sledding. A winter vacation cannot hope to match the versatility that a tropical vacation can, and there are many more kid-friendly activities available in tropical and warm locales.
When talking about versatility, it is important to remember what large families will consider the best vacation, because they are worth the most to travel agents. Families that travel want activities that their kids will love, and tropical vacations are built for kids. Tourist infrastructure and kid-friendly resorts are centered in tropical locations (Disney World, Sea World, etc.).
These same facilities also often offer separate activities for parents, where children can go to a camp or activities for the day while parents can enjoy themselves on their own. Winter vacations do not have that same type of range in options, and the ones they do offer are prohibitively expensive. Snowboarding and skiing require a lot of expensive equipment, as well as having to purchase for lift tickets.
Beyond the high price of equipment rentals and such, many vacation packages that offer significant discounts cater to tropical vacations. Sites such as Expedia and Orbitz offer packages that include airfare, hotel, and car rental as well as amusement park entrances. These types of deals are more prevalent in tropical locales because they offer better-developed amenities and facilities that will bring more people, guaranteeing lower prices for vacationers. Unfortunately for winter locations, that same amount of development simply is not there yet.
For a family with children, a tropical vacation offers the best bang for their buck. Not only do they offer the best activities for very young children, they offer activities and experiences that are fun to all ages. Even young adults can enjoy the sand or something on the boardwalk. And with the facilities available to care for the children during the day, parents can enjoy whatever the beach has to offer on their own time. Versatility, prices, and very broad appeal combine to make a tropical location an excellent choice for any family vacation.
