- Gather information about the boating rules and law of the place you plan to visit. In this way you can be sure that you don't do anything illegal.
- Certain lake resorts are alcohol free. Consumption or possession of alcohol might be illegal. Verify these facts before you decide on carrying a few cans of beer along.
- If you are renting a boat make sure the condition of the boat is good. Check the safety provisions on board. See that the fuel tank is full and carry enough fuel in reserve. Check the VHF radio and make sure that at least two of you on board know how to use it.
- While camping by the lakeside, make sure that if you have kids with you, they are properly instructed and supervised at all times. Be sensible while disposing trash. Trash should be put into designated bins only. Be sensitive to other groups or families camping out by the lakeside.
